Rhode Island

As we have been listening to weather reports this winter, the New England States have had more than their share of winter weather. Now with the spring thaw comes flooding and it seems Warwick, Rhode Island has gotten the worst of it, and declared a disaster area. We have relatives living there so I contacted a niece and she tells me that her house is high so she is not in trouble but the entire area is flooded and it takes three hours to get to work which is usually a twenty minute ride. "The power is off for many and the two big malls look like lakes". The water is receding slowly but think of the aftermath and the work involved to make things right again. It is going to take a long time and a lot of hard work for people to be able to live in their homes again. I remember my sister-in-law's folks had a small house right on the river and they used to get flooded out when the hurricanes were huge and left them with mud to shovel out and they would have to redo the floors and carpeting. It was family owned for generations so they were not about to move but now, although they are gone, I wonder if that little house survived this flood. I wonder if our first home survived. My heart goes out to all of the folks who have to fight this battle of survival. We have had a 'wet' winter so far, right into spring, but nothing like what those folks are going through. I count my blessings and hope that the help they need will be sent to them quickly.
So today, count your blessings as you go out and about hopefully without any large looming disasters of post winter blahs. Easter is just around the corner as today, "Good Friday" we keep the three hour silence and bend our knees in supplication for Easter Sunday is right around the corner. Make today a day of prayer and fasting in thanksgiving for all of your blessings, it just cannot hurt you and will make you a 'better' person. But then you are a 'better' person . . . in fact one of the 'best'.
