Color

"The river that ran away to Paradise" is what it is called. The Cano Cristales La Macarena river of Columbia, South America. These are a few of the pictures that came in yesterday in an e-mail, glorious colors created by the change of seasons. During the wet season the river flows fast and deep denying the moss and algae sun. In the dry season not enough water supports life. Between the two seasons many varieties of algae and moss bloom showing the dazzling colors you see in these pictures. Nature truly is magic.
Easter Sunday proved to be a stormy one. Daughter Pat and her friend Maggie came over to pick me up and take me to a buffet at the casino. They had plenty of food, roast beef, ham, chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, scalloped potatoes (my favorite) and a mix of vegetables. The soup and salad bar were there for the asking, some delicious yeast rolls and a holiday fruit area filled with huge, and I mean huge strawberries, melons, pineapple and watermelon that was fresh and delicious. The deserts were slices of cake. The pies came out after the fact and by then we were too full to appreciate them. With all that food and not having to cook you would think I would be extolling the virtues of eating out on Easter Sunday . . . and I would . . . BUT, aha, there goes my favorite word; the food was not hot enough, rather luke warm and thereby hangs the tale of it was 'okay but . . .' I happen to like my food hot and luke warm just doesn't do it. I am really not complaining, just an observation, as I didn't have to cook, clean up or do anything but enjoy myself. I got to play awhile and even though the new penny machines take more out of pocket than the old nickle machines, I had a good time.
So today, with Easter behind us and spring coming in full bloom, the rains are bound to stop and the sun will stay out awhile. The earthquake in southern California via the Mexican border sounds ominous as the earth begins to move in this part of our world. I don't think there is anyway we can prepare ourselves for such an event; it will happen when it happens and then you do what you have to do. Our entire globe seems to be shaking and rearranging itself, maybe that is what is needed to calm everyone down. Life, as we know it, has been pretty hectic lately. So let us keep the faith, take one day as it comes and make it the best one yet. I'm off for my first cup of coffee . . . come join me, I make it strong enough to stand your spoon in it; you know, New England style!
